As you can see, Limpopo residents have been the most fortunate, occupying four positions among the top 13 jackpot winners.
The Western Cape are second to Limpopo with three big wins. Gauteng and Free State have had a decent share, too, with two each. Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal comprise the rest of the list with one apiece. The Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and North West are still patiently waiting for their first.
Western Cape’s podium finishes
Two of the Western Cape’s top three finishes are among the top three overall. A man, who chose to remain anonymous, started 2019 with a fat financial boost after purchasing his winning ticket at an OK Mini Mart in the northern suburb of Tygerdal, Cape Town.
His prize of R232 million was almost a full R100 million more than the R141 million claimed by the Mossel Bay man a few months later. The 50-year-old construction worker effectively took inspiration from a dream his wife had and entered the draw.
Limpopo’s quartet
Limpopo currently have positions seven, 10, 11 and 12 among the top 13 SA Powerball jackpot wins by province, with amounts of R114 million, R87 million, R51 million and R43 million. The R87 million win was done on a particularly tight timeline, as the eventual winner had purchased the ticket a mere 15 minutes before the draw took place.
Free State’s split
With one finish among the top 5 and a second in the bottom half, the province of Free State also presently account for 20% of the 10 highest SA Powerball jackpot wins in the history of the draw. A Bloemfontein grandfather took home R121 million, while a 20-something businessman in the same town effectively waited a full 24 rollovers before winning his R102 million.
Powerball Plus
The SA Powerball has its Powerball Plus variation, too. It ostensibly gives players a second chance to win, even though prizes are usually lower than in the standard Powerball draw.
Regardless, these three biggest SA Powerball Plus wins, ever, show that the draw has as much merit as the initial Powerball.

Again, it’s Free State, Western Cape and Limpopo who comprise the top three. This time, however, it’s the inland province of Free State that has managed to take pole position ahead of their coastal counterparts Western Cape.
This page will be updated the next time a record SA Powerball jackpot is won.
